アメリカの友人に「そっちはコロナ大丈夫？」とメールしたら、「うちの大学から1人、感染者でちゃった。マサチューセッツ州全体で12名。」と返事が来ました。
その後はもう怒り爆発で、「トランプがCDCやNSCの感染症対策チームを骨抜きにしたから、こうなったのよ。検査キットも全然足りてないし。あんなやつ永久にホワイトハウスから消えてほしいもんだわ。」
どっかの国の首相みたいだと思いました。
The panic here is palpable, in part, because the federal government (i.e., Trump administration) is doing such a poor job of handling the situation. After several weeks of promises of abundant test kits, they are still in very short supply across the USA. So, the number of cases nation-wide is probably much higher than that reported. I think this fiasco has occurred because Trump, upon assuming the presidency, gutted the infectious disease group at the Center for Disease Control. He also eliminated an infectious disease position from the National Security Council. The American public is increasingly angry about this, and I hope the situation boots Trump out of the White House and out of our lives forever!
